The standard Georgia e-Visa processing time is up to 5 business days from the date your complete application – including the mandatory DuVerify step – is received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In practice, many applicants receive approval within 3-4 business days, but there is no guarantee of faster processing, and no expedited option exists.
This page explains how the processing timeline works, when to apply relative to your travel date, and what to do if your application takes longer than expected.
How Long Does Georgia e-Visa Processing Take?
Official processing time: up to 5 business days. Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding Georgian public holidays. This means:
- An application submitted on Monday morning could be approved by Friday afternoon in the best case
- An application submitted on Friday afternoon starts processing the following Monday
- Georgian public holidays pause the clock – factor these in around major holidays
Processing begins only after both steps are complete: (1) the main application form with payment on evisa.gov.ge, and (2) the DuVerify identity verification, which must be completed within 24 hours of the main application. If DuVerify is not completed, processing does not begin.
When Should I Apply?
Apply at least 2-3 weeks before your travel date – ideally 3-4 weeks if your trip date is fixed (non-changeable flights, pre-paid accommodation, etc.). This gives you:
- 5 business days for standard processing
- Additional buffer if your application has issues requiring additional information
- Time to reapply if your application is rejected
- Time to resolve any DuVerify technical issues
Do not apply too early either – the Georgia e-Visa is valid for 120 days from the date of issue. If you apply 4 months before travel, your visa may expire before your trip starts. See our guide on Georgia e-Visa validity periods.
Tracking Your Application Status
You can check your application status at any time by logging into evisa.gov.ge with your application reference number and email address. Application statuses include:
- Submitted – Application received, awaiting review
- Under Review – Application is being processed by MFA staff
- Additional Information Required – MFA has a query; you should respond promptly via the portal or email
- Approved – e-Visa issued; check your email for the PDF attachment
- Rejected – Application declined; see the reason provided
You will also receive email notifications at each key stage. Ensure your email address was entered correctly in the application form and monitor your spam folder.
What Causes Processing Delays?
Beyond the standard 5-day window, delays can occur for several reasons:
- Incomplete DuVerify – The most common delay; ensure you complete it within 24 hours of your main application
- Document issues – Low-quality scans, unreadable documents, or missing files trigger a request for resubmission
- High application volumes – Busy travel seasons (summer, major holidays) may slow processing
- Background check requirements – Some nationalities may require additional security screening
- Discrepancies in application – Inconsistencies between your form and uploaded documents require manual review
If your application shows “Additional Information Required,” respond as quickly as possible – delays in your response directly extend your overall processing time.
Is There an Expedited Georgia e-Visa Processing Option?
No. The official Georgian government portal does not offer any premium, expedited, or rush processing tier. Be very cautious of third-party websites claiming they can deliver a Georgia e-Visa faster for a higher fee – they have no ability to speed up official government processing. All applications go through the same MFA review queue.
What to Do If Processing Takes Longer Than 5 Business Days
If your application has not been decided after 5 full business days (and your DuVerify was completed on time), contact the Georgian MFA through the official evisa.gov.ge contact channels. Have your application reference number ready.
Do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation until your e-Visa is approved – the processing time is “up to 5 business days” and is not guaranteed to be exactly 5 days or less. For advice on what to do if your application has been waiting for a while, see our Georgia e-Visa FAQ page.
Processing Time vs. Validity Period
The processing time and the visa validity period are separate concepts:
- Processing time (up to 5 business days) – How long it takes for the MFA to review and issue your visa after application
- Validity period (120 days from issue date) – How long you have to enter Georgia after the visa is issued
- Stay duration (30 days per entry) – How long you can remain in Georgia once you cross the border
Time your application so that the 120-day validity window comfortably covers your planned travel dates. See the full validity period breakdown for examples.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check my Georgia e-Visa application status online?
Yes. Log in to evisa.gov.ge with your application reference number and the email address used in the application to view your current status. You will also receive automated email notifications at key processing stages.
What if I submit my Georgia e-Visa application on a weekend?
If you submit on Saturday or Sunday, processing officially begins the next business day – Monday. The 5 business day count starts from when your complete application (including DuVerify) is in the review queue on a business day. Always factor in weekends and Georgian public holidays when planning your application timeline.
How long does the DuVerify step take to process?
The DuVerify identity check itself takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. However, DuVerify’s own processing and result confirmation may take a few additional hours. Complete it as soon as you receive the email – ideally within the first few hours after submitting your main application, not at the last minute before the 24-hour deadline.
Will I be notified by email when my Georgia e-Visa is approved?
Yes. When your e-Visa is approved, you will receive an email from the official evisa.gov.ge system with your e-Visa PDF attached. If you do not receive this after 5 business days, check your spam folder, then log in to evisa.gov.ge to check your application status directly.
